Hiring Professional Painters VS Doing It Yourself

Painting your own house will save you a ton of money as painting contractors can be pretty pricey at times but ask yourself these questions before taking the plunge.

1. How much do you know about applying paint?
2. How much do you know about exterior paint?
3. How much time do you have to paint your house?

How much do you know about applying paint?

How much experience do you have with exterior paint? It’s easy to say I can do that it looks easy and yes will most probably be able to paint your house but quality plays a big part here. It’s like saying I can build a kitchen. I’ll just buy some ready to assemble kitchen units and install it myself but we both know there’s far more to building a kitchen than just placing kitchen units on the floor. You firstly need to be good with working with your hands. Some people just shouldn’t paint, build kitchens or even change a light bulb. They are not made that way and would thrive in other areas like accounting, medicine or admin work. I’m generalizing here but it’s not far from being accurate. Painters are trained professionals and do it for a living. They are good with their hands and like when an accountant is faced with a problem at work they can solve problems they are faced with in their area of expertise. A Professional Painters also guarantees their work so if anything goes wrong you know you’re covered.

How much do you know about exterior paint?

If you live by the ocean you would need a far tougher paint that can handle all of Mother Nature’s most severe elements. These kinds of exterior paints are far more superior than those used on inland houses hence the hefty price. Painting contractors normally have accounts at paint warehouses and as they purchase products there often they get paint for much cheaper than you would if you had to buy it yourself. They also know what paint you would need for where you live and will be able to give you much more professional advice than a salesman that works at a paint warehouse.

How much time do you have to paint your house?

If you’re anything like me you’re most probably near dead when you come home from work and painting your house after hours seems less possible than winning the lottery. You could do it on weekends but usually your brain goes into relaxing /socializing mode so you would most probably dread the weekends knowing you need to paint your house and drag it out for months to come. On the other hand it’s a wonderful thing to come home to knowing progress has been made on the painting of your house and it was done by professionals and overseen by a site foreman.

So yes there’s no doubt that you will save money painting your own house but why not leave that to professionals and do what you’re good at. It will give you piece of mind and more time to do things that you love.
